Soe Naing was the one who combined disproportionately shaped figures and movements of various people and animals as he sees in his daily life. He combined this little things with fast-moving brushstrokes and created into his own abstract painting style.
He is one of the Burmese New Figurative artists who walked the path of AbEx. The style of painting, which is a mixture of subconsciously moving brushstrokes and conscious content figures are his own unique works.
Artist Soe Naing was born in Yangon in 1961. He studied painting under the great Burmese artist U Thein Han, and continued to learn basic painting from the artist U Lun Gywe at Yangon University's art course.
In 1985, he graduated from Yangon University with the specialization in Zoology.
Before 1980, He liked to watch and learn the light brushstrokes and painting styles from movie posters and magazine illustrations of artists Bagyi Aung Soe , Maung Nyo Win and Ko Shwe Aung Thein. He studied different painting styles that move freely according to emotion from the Burmese and Western artists. He was interested in the modern works of Jackson Pollock and William De Kooning. In 1980, he had the opportunity to learn about the American AbEx trend and modern art concepts from the artist U Aung Myint, and he also got in touch with artist Aung Myint's Innya Art Gallery.
After 1990, He drew the disproportionately shaped figures of various people and animals with fast-moving brushstrokes and began to create his own subjects, "little creatures". "The strange movements and various forms of small animals that he saw in his daily life caught his attention, and these little creatures were more interesting to him than anything else," said Soe Naing. His little creatures were created as sculptures and paper crafts and also painted illustrations with various types of painting mediums. Since 1994, he has participated in many solo and group exhibitions at local and abroad. Because of his unique painting style, he was well-known locally and internationally. His works of art were bought and collected.
Every time Soe Naing paints, whatever the shape he draws, on any subject or lines or medium he uses, He usually draws with very light and quick brush strokes.
He is also a person who freely depicts on the canvas according to what he sees and feels in his mind.
You can feel the freedom of his artwork that is combined with rags and colors and lines through the painting shown in this exhibition.
